You want to hire the best people for the job. You want them to make an impact on the company and become important players for your organization.
Often times, as recruiters, we spend a lot of time telling candidates about the position, and not enough time telling the company’s story.
Let me tell you my story.
Coming out of college, I was eager, excited and ready to make a difference. I had a lot of skills and experience to offer the companies that were recruiting me. I had a lot of options in front of me. Attractive options.
I took the job with the company that told me their story. They didn’t offer me the highest salary, the best benefits, or a new working space. But they sold me on the vision—I understood who they were and where they were going, and I knew that I was a perfect fit.
I went into the interview skeptical of the industry, and with preconceived ideas about the position. But when the recruiter painted me a picture of who the company was, and told me the personal stories about the founders and the vision they were committed to, I was ready to role up my sleeves and get involved and make a difference.
The company’s story, and mine both ended well. After just four years with the company, it has doubled in market size and I had grown into a Senior Director of Marketing and Communications. It was storybook tale.
